History of the Association
On August 8, 1991
representatives of seven public sector hazardous materials response
teams met in Greensboro to discuss the diversity of hazardous
materials response teams within the state and benefits of forming an
Association to share information, training, and have a voice in
making recommendations to the North Carolina Fire and Rescue
Commission regarding training and certification of public sector
hazardous materials teams.
From that meeting, the North Carolina Association of Hazardous
Materials Responders was formed. A mission statement and bylaws were
developed and the Association began the process of developing and
presenting the recommendations regarding training, certification,
regional response and other issues to the North Carolina Fire and
Rescue Commission.
The NCAHMR is recognized by the North Carolina Firemen's Association
as a vital resource for hazardous materials information in North
Carolina. The Association has two representatives on the Hazardous
Materials Review Committee and the President of the Association
serves on the Regional Response Committee. |
